Nathan, Joshua and I took a trip to Harold Parker State Forest in North Andover for some fishing on Berry Pond. They provided the tackle and bait said the details, so we arrived to find fishing rods with flies for "bait" and what looked like an empty pond (fish-wise). The man who was running the fishing event was kind enough to hand us a marshmallow and said that they sometimes worked to attract the fish. I'd never seen a marshmallow used to fish, but hey... he was the resident fisherman right?
Well, after an hour and a half of clinging to the steep banks and narrow shore, catching overhanging limbs, dead branches in the water and some occasional weeds... it was looking rather dim.
Nathan snapped his line on an infamous "branch fish" within half an hour, so we had to share one rod.
When we were close to heading out, Joshua asked to bait his own hook and make a final toss into the water before we left, so I obliged. The cast was not the best and it just barely cleared the shoreline and wouldn't you know... Josh caught his fish... a pretty good size yellow perch.
** We then proceeded to pile into the car and find out that the brake line was gone, which led to a couple hours of waiting for a tow truck... but that's a whole other story.
Josh caught a fish making our first fishing trip a Success!
