TIC-TAC-OW!

December already? Another month is upon us, so off we went to the Home Depot Kids Workshop for a project... with the request of a visit to Denny's from Nathan (you'll remember from a past post that he plans to impress his future wife with dining at this fine establishment). 

The project this time it was a tic-tac-toe game with a Despicable Me 2 movie theme. An interesting choice for December with all of the snowmen, reindeer, Christmas tree or other winter themed options one would normally expect, but I digress... it's a free project, so we take what we get.

I started the nails on Joshua's box for him and turned my attention to Nathan for a minute when Joshua suddenly stopped hammering, looked at me, looked at his thumb, and back at me again. It didn't take long to figure out what had happened as the crying started and the blood blister slowly formed on his thumb. Nathan stoically continued nailing his project together and then applied copious amounts of paint (I believe his intent was to play off the situation so we wouldn't have to go straight home and miss out on Denny's).  After some blood, sweat and tears (well, maybe just blood and a lot of tears) we got everything put together, painted, "stickered up" and headed out for pancakes. 

Valuable lessons learned at the workshop today!! 

Joshua learned that the nail your supposed to hammer is the metal kind and not the one on your hand. 

I learned that maybe Joshua isn't quite ready for using a hammer on his own yet.
