Today there was a trip to Breakheart Reservation to see how sugaring and maple syrup is done. Due to the warm days we've been having pretty much all winter, the trees were confused and instead of the usual mid-March syrup tap, this year the beginning of February was tapping time.
It just so happened that the nice 65 degree weather of the previous day had departed and left behind some 40 degree temps... but what could go better with a little trek around the woods, right? Brrr... The pancakes and popcorn covered in maple syrup seemed to make things better (or at least a good distraction) at the end, but Nathan still badly wanted to make his way to the fire to stay warm.
Ranger Russ had Noah's full attention. Man + Stick = whoa!
Joshua enlightens Noah on the finer points of pine tree identification... Noah of course sampled some choice pine needles before I could get to him!

Nathan was far more cautious than Joshua and gave up his turn at the pull saw. Joshua on the other hand was ready to "GET SOME!"
Nathan [to self]: Huh? Maybe it's not that bad if even Josh can do it. He still has all his fingers anyway...
